Methodism's got talent

I hear on the grapevine that one of this week's Britain's Got Talent contestants has a Methodist background. So watch out  forJean Martyn and remember to cast your vote. She reminds me a bit of Cherry Wainer of which only regular readers Ian S and Tony B are old enough to have any memory. I  met Cherry in the chip shop when she popped out from rehearsals with Cliff Richard. (That last sentence is entirely true by the way) Anyway, sorry I digress, watch out for Jean on Britain's Got Talent.

I had just read about Jean Martyn in the Express and Star so was pleased to see this link. She would make one mean church organist (she does do recitals in churches).
As for Cherry Wainer another excellent organist playing what I know is a Hammond and possibly the B3 which is a classic organ often used by American gospel musicians. Bill Gaither often has one on his recordings and their is an amusing incident with J.D.Sumner when one of these organs really annoys him.

Sadly the story isn't available online otherwise I would have put a link in. I was right - you do remember Cherry Wainer. I got to meet her, Cliff, "Lord Rockingham" and the Dallas Boys when they used to do "Oh Boy" from the Hackney Empire. I got to know one of the commissionaires (I think he'd been a drinking pal of one of my uncles) and he used to let me have the ticket he kept in his hat if they had any places left. There is noting like watching a live TV show!
