People of all faiths in the UK would be well advised to carefully read the reports of a recent Searchlight Magazine poll on British attitudes to race and immigration. With some Methodist congregations being predominantly non-White we need to be aware that we could come under heavy pressure.
The poll suggests that the level of support for far right attitudes to immigration far outstrips that seen in Holland and France. More worryingly, in certain circumstances nearly half the population would consider supporting a political party which was anti-immigration and committed to challenging Islamist extremism.

I think there is a great deal of underestimation of the true depth of feeling on the topic of immigration. One of the essential problems is that there never seems to be the opportunity to discuss the topic sensibly and rationally without accusations of racism being put forward.
I live in an area where at the last census the non indigenous population was 30% which is fairly high and I would have to say we live in peace with each other, probably because we accept each other. However that is not to say that there are not feelings which mirror what you have mentioned in your post and I suspect some of the reactionary feeling may be down to the fact that certain parts of the population are always presented as the racists when in reality many of them are not. I have been on various equality courses over the years and often come out feeling angry because I am according to the people running the courses a racist of the hang em, whip em, send em all back mould, just because I am white, British and of a certain age.
In respect of Islamic extremism I do not see much of that in our area and wonder if it is to some degree a figment of overactive imaginations.
Thanks FP. I know what you mean about these courses. The middle aged white man is always meant to act as the organisers believe as a middle aged white man should act! I think they find it difficult to understand how much British society has changed in our lifetime. Having said that, when I was a youngster people used to say the same things about Jews as they now do about Muslims.
I gave up on Searchlight years ago when it started to demonise Israel as racist.
What's disturbing? Majority opposed to violence; significant sections of immigrant community want immigration curbed; fear of Islamic extremism; resurgence of patriotism. Seems OK to me. It just doesn't fit the socialist narrative.
