A young man called in at church last night just as we were wrapping up the church council meeting. Earlier in the evening he had turned up at our community choir.
He was Russian, lived in one of the many bedsits that surround our church and struck us as being desperately lonely. There are many Eastern Europeans living in our community and we only seem to have occasional contact.
Do any readers know of any outreach or befriending schemes being run by churches from which we could get some ideas?

David, Not exactly the same, but part of the sanctuary project in Sheffield is i believe an allotment project that has proved very beneficial for befriending a mix of people. I've only seen the video but it looked really good.

Paul
Get out whichever directory you have of Methodist churches, and call-up Edinburgh which, I believe, now is centred on Nicholson Square.
When I attended Leith, there were regular outreach and soup kitchen style thingies for such groups. Leith since has been decanted first to Central Hall (on Lothian Road) and soon-if-not-already Nicholson Square... although the old Leith church continues to house the Acorn Centre which deals with the homeless and other community issues.
