......Methodism must be doing something right!
And I don't think John Wesley would have been "spinning in his grave".

Why is it that people think an opinion from 250 years ago would be the same if it had been formed today? I'm sure Mr Wesley would have seen some things the same as he did, but there are a lot of things which look very different now from they way they did in the 1700s.
As to what he'd have thought of the BNP...
Not the first time the BNP anc co have targeted Methodism. Their ignorance re Christianity knows no bounds.
This is a day I feel proud to be a Methodist.
The truth is truth wherever we find it. Aren't you ashamed that the devil has found a target in the Methodist Church? I note that no-one is denying the Wesley quote.
The BNP is accusing you of abandoning the faith. The devil called Jesus the 'Holy One of God'. He was silenced because Jesus knew the source would taint the truth. The medium is the message. The BNP tells the truth but you don't believe it because the source is tainted. You do not understand what Jesus taught us. You think because the BNP tell the truth it must be a lie.
Answer the Wesley quote and do not allow the BNP to speak the truth with a twist.
Islam is martyring Christians the world over but we ignore our martyred brothers and sisters (their blood cries out) and pretend that Islam is a religion of peace.
Muslims are held in subjection - especially women - and you revel in interfaith 'dialogue'.
Shame on you. Why are you not spending the money on proclaiming our freedom in Christ? If the BNP had not attacked the multi-faith project you would not be defending it.
Now you defend the indefensible and the BNP pose as the champions of Christian freedom.
O foolish Methodists! Who has bewitched you?
Shame on you.
I think the rant above is a typical example of the hate mongering of groups such as the BNP. No serious intent to discuss issues is shown - only a desire to fulfil the devil's work of dividing people from one another.
As the Interfaith officer for the Methodist Church in my district I welcome all efforts at interfaith dialogue. We are more likely to live well together if we eat together and share our common understandings before discussing painful issues that create animosity.
I would remind the person who hides behind anonymity as cowards commonly do, that hosipitality is a Christian virtue. I also remind this person that in the Parable of the Good Samaritan we learn to accept help from those who are of different race or faith than us.
I would gladly discuss the issue of persecuted Christians for it matters greatly but not as a pretext to create divisions aas per the agenda of a neo Nazi political party.
Typical left-wing accusation that opposition is Nazi. I remind you that the Nazis were national socialists. Anyone can try to end debate by bringing in the Nazis. May I refer you to Godwin's Law?

It is clear that you have completely failed to understand the argument. You are ceding ground to the BNP by your approach. You allow them to pose as champions because of your dhimmitude.
There are muslims opposed to terrorism and others who are suborning the political process see here:

Anonymity is not always cowardice, but discretion. I have seen how the left behave towards their opponents. I have already cited the persecution of Christians by Islam. I have no desire to subject others for whom I am responsible to the sort of hatred that some activists are capable of.
You have failed to answer ny points. You call my discourse a rant and answer nothing. Abuse is not clever.
Hospitality is a virtue and one found elsewhere. Some forms of Islam are renowned for it. However, hospitality is not the same as welcoming a Trojan horse.
As for your assertions about he Good Samaritan, a closer parallel would be the situation in Northern Ireland. The Samaritans did not worship a different God! Anyway, Jesus did not ever validate the Samaritan faith. On the contrary, He challenged them to repentance and to worship God in Spirit and in Truth every bit as much as the Jews.
Another word for inter-faith is syncretism. I used to be an interfaith representative for an evangelical church. Like the prejudiced leftists they are, they never allowed me to speak or ask me what I thought. They never informed me of meetings but assumed that I would have nothing to contribute. Please note, all this was done on assumptions made about the Anglican church I represented and not on actual discussion.
You have done nothing to persuade me that anything has changed some thirty-plus years later.
Committed muslims are easier to talk to than lukewarm non-evangelists. I have never had difficulty with true believers even though we disagreed.
Show me your converts - but you don't believe in that do you? Interfaith is a pathetic excuse for failing to obey Christ's Great Commission.
