Well I've had enough. Sometimes it is time to defend the reputation of your neighbourhood. For several years now the now the name of our little corner of Smethwick , Bearwood, has been dragged in the gutter that constitutes the murky world of Conservative Party fundraising.
Lord Ashcroft uses a misnamed "Bearwood Corporate Services" to funnel millions of ££££s into Tory Party campaigning. This company has absolutely nothing to do with Bearwood.
I've therefore written to Companies House and asked to them insist that Ashcroft changes the name of the company.
At present the misuse of the neighbourhood's name is lowering the tone of the area and may even have a detrimental impact on house prices.

Could this be the Bearwood near Leominster in Herefordshire or the Bearwood near Wokingham, Berkshire?
Praguetory is rude, but, nevertheless, correct in his opinion of your complaint.
I would have thought that Bearwood Corporate Finance based in Reading might have grounds for complaint against Bearwood Corporate Sevices based in Woking. Even that depends on the precise nature of the two companies and whether there is any infringement. More detailed information can be obtained from The Intellectual Property Office (http://www.ipo.gov.uk/) which also has an online database of trademarks.
Judging from the property prices in the Reading/Wokingham area your fears are unfounded. Indeed, the association might raise prices!
Finally, what of the murky world of Labour Party funding? Various people and places called Ecclestone aren't happy... for example.
Stones and Glass Houses spring to mind
Reigniting the class war...
Tory funding 'scandal'...
Could it be........?
The conference season!
Perhaps if the previous commenter had read your blog he or she would have known exactly where the Bearwood referred to is located.
I do find it strange that people will often comment without having any knowledge of the topic they are commenting on - in this case a blatant lack of geographical knowledge shines through.
Have I missed something or have you deleted a comment from praguetory?
Yes FP I did delete an offensive comment from Praguetory.
The previous 'commenter' (sic - obs. OED) know EXACTLY where the Bearwood referred to is. He also knows that there are other Bearwoods and that Lord Ashcroft's Bearwood has NOTHING to do with Smethwick. Just do the research and google it.
The Fat Prophet owes me an apology. I am not the one who is ignorant.
This commentator apologises for the string of numbers and letters. It is beyond my control and to do with Typepad.
Well I think this must be a first for me! I appear to have offended this commenter and receive a demand for an apology along with a suggestion that I am ignorant!
Well I am not going to apologise as I believe my comment was fair given the content of the comment I based it on.
I have realised now the error of my ways in ignoring my late mother's advice about getting involved in discussions on two topics, one of which was politics as in her opinion it often led to people falling out. She also held the view that many people were like leopards when it came to politics and would never change their spots regardless of how inept the particular party they supported was, and they were certainly never going to listen to anyone with an opposing view.
Thanks MP for clearing up the praguetory matter. perhaps if I had caught sight of this before you removed it I may not have been so 'Ignorant'.
I think any of the several areas known as Bearwood should object to this association with Ashcroft and his millions. My original post however did make it clear that I was concerned with our little corner of Smethwick
I did insult the generous host, because it was warranted. Here's a man who bangs on about his Northern roots, but has an absurdly proprietorial attitude to his adopted home.
His post which is interspersed with pejoratives shows a lamentable understanding both of elections and company law. Last time I looked UK trading companies can donate to political parties. The name of the company is irrelevant. Objections to a trading name need to be based on something more substantive than the legal activities of a company.
All the author of this post has achieved is to draw attention to a company he doesn't like with Bearwood in the name - the opposite of what he said he was setting out to achieve.
Thanks for the clarification Praguetory.
Sensible comments - even if I disagree are left up. Insults are taken down.
However I must take you to task on one minor point: I have no "Northern roots" of which to boast.
Smethwick where I have lived for most of my adult life is in the Midlands.
I was born and lived my childhood in East London, in fact a genuine Cockney.
Apologies for the inaccuracy.
Fat Prophet, I demonstrated knowledge of several Bearwoods for a reason. I went on to show that I had some knowledge of name/trademark infringement. My comment about the other two Bearwoods was intended as irony.
I hope that the remark about people never changing their political opinions no matter how inept the party is not aimed at me? I have voted according to my conscience over the years. Some yuears ago that meant NOT voting Tory. Recently, due to the ineptitude and ungodliness of the curent Labour Party they have lost my vote. I don't think that I have ever voted Liberal as I haven't taken leave of my senses, yet!
I am not arguing for Lord Ashcroft but rather pointing out that David hasn't got a snowball in hell's chance of getting anywhere with his complaint.
He's making a point about Tory party funding whilst ignoring the equally dubious funding of other political parties.
I'm still trying to work out what demonstrates my 'lack of geographical knowledge'?
Ian and FP. Don't get too excited. You both have the same theological outlook and have strong connections with West Bromwich.
The fascinating thing about this post is that it has bought in a whole new lot of custom. It never occurred to me that people in the Turks and Cacous Islands had nothing better to do than google "Ashcroft Bearwood", but apparently that's all they do all day.
